The White House Historical Association

I was asked by the New-York based design studio Pentagram and The White House Historical Association to create a set of two illustrations used for a front and back cover of the book "Wine and the White House: A History" written by Frederick J. Ryan Jr. It's a comprehensive journey through the history of White House hospitality that explores every president's experience of wine.

The idea for both of the illustrations was to capture the elegant and refined interior of State Dining Room and a typical table setting of the White House state dinner, which includes the Lincoln glassware, gilded candelabras, the President's House crystal pattern, the 19th-century Abraham Lincoln portrait painted by George P. A. Healy to name a few.

Unfortunately, the original idea of using the illustrations for the book's cover changed and therefore I managed to draw one of two commissioned illustrations.
